Artsy Squamish

A spur-of-the-moment trip to Squamish with friends is our highlight on Saturday of the Victoria Day Weekend. About an hour past West Vancouver on the scenic Sea to Sky Highway brings us to this bustling mountain town on Howe Sound.

After stopping for coffee and snacks at the Zephyr Cafe, this bicycle sculpture catches my attention as we stroll down Cleveland Avenue.

A little further down the street I notice this decorative shop window trim, made of log ends—so perfect for a town where for years logging was a big part of the livelihood.

After our walk we jump into the car to explore a bit more. A short drive around town brings us to this mural. I love the aboriginal feel of the design, the vivid colours especially the shades of turquoise and orange, and the natural subject matter with its layers, especially the underwater fish and seaweed.

Tomorrow I’ll post some photos of Squamish’s natural beauty.
