Rocky Mountain High

I couldn’t stop taking pictures on our recent road trip through the mountains. Here are twelve of my favourites.

Most of these photos were taken along the Icefields Parkway (Alberta Highway 93, Banff to Jasper). I snapped some photos through the car window as we drove along. For others hubby stopped the car and let me have some dedicated shutter time.

At Highway 11 (Saskatchewan Landing) we turned east off Highway 93 onto Highway 11. One or two scenes are from that stretch of road.

Sorry, I can’t tell you the names the particular mountains, glaciers, and lakes.

  1. Thank you, Laurel! You picked out the one that’s my favorite too (I’ve set it as my desktop wallpaper for the moment). I can’t tell you exactly where it was taken–somewhere going north on Highway 93 (Icefields Parkway) between Lake Louise and the turnoff to Highway 11 (at Saskatchewan Landing I think it is). The mountains on that road feel incredibly close. It’s a beautiful drive!

  2. Hi Violet, these pictures bring back memories from our recent trip, we also were on the Icefields Parkway, it’s beautiful. When we were there many lakes were still frozen, very pretty and special!

    • Wonderful, Marja! You’ll have to come back again in spring, summer or fall. Of course each season has its charms, in fact, each time of day is different. We happened through on a mostly sunny day. Even here there were variations. Sometimes clouds cast their shadows on the mountain flanks, leaving a dappled effect. One could probably spend months photographing the grandeur of these mountains!
